405
Based on a platform of 205 lengthened, the 405 is intended to take over from the 505. Its design is by Pininfarina.
In 1988, it won the title of “Car of the Year” awarded by the jury of the European press.
From a technical point of view, with the 405, Peugeot systematizes the use of traction.
Several versions with all-wheel drive were available from 1989, including the 405 Mi16.
In 1992, it is slightly restyled to emphasize three major axes which are the style, the interior environment and the engines.
More than 5 million 405s were produced in the Sochaux and Ryton plants, and then in Iran under the name 405 Persia from 2010.
