The Citroën Lictoria C6 of Pope Pius XI
The Citroën Lictoria C6 (C6E mine type) was presented to Pius XI on 9 June 1930 by the Italian Citroën factory in Milan to celebrate the Reconciliation between the Church and the Italian State.
The chassis was produced in Javel and delivered to Italy to be bodied, voluntarily, by very pious workers.
Amaranth red in colour and richly decorated with gold and jewels, it was used by His Holiness to travel in and out of the Vatican. Restored in 1996, this vehicle has covered less than 200 kilometres!
This car was restored in Italy and was once displayed at Citroen Italy next to another C6 that ran as a taxi for 50 years, and hundreds of thousands of kilometres. The car still exists and is currently on display in the Vatican Museum.
