Peugeot radios
In 1938, following a study which noted the growing success of radio in Europe, the “lion” launched itself into the manufacture of radio sets. It is decided very quickly to create a Radio-Peugeot branch in the factories of Saint-Etienne, which had the capacity to produce 12 500 receivers per year.
The first prototype of Radio-Peugeot is assembled at the beginning of 1937. The following year, Radio-Peugeot released six other different models.
All the devices were manufactured by the “Société de constructions mécaniques et électriques de Loire”, whose head office was in Courbevoie and the factories in Saint-Etienne. These factories were running at full capacity.
They produced models with classic lines, such as the 1940s and 1950s models which are horizontal, made of veneer, with a dial occupying the right half of the front. Some models are distinguished by their square shape, while others have a box-like cabinet with two doors.
The style can be very different from one set to another, but the amateur can find the inscription “Radio-Peugeot” on each model. The lion is only present on a few models.
The production of Radio-Peugeot continued until the mid 1950s.
