GSX and GSX 2: cars “full of life”
In the year 2020, synonymous with Citroen’s anniversary, we celebrate the different versions of the Citroën GS.
At the 1974 Paris Motor Show, to expand the GS range, the GSX and the GSX 2 were notably presented.
The GSX is based on the GSpecial but with a sporty presentation.
Black grille, Cibié long-range headlights, front bumper blade with central rubber bumper, small wheel trims and specific visible wheel nuts, side window frames in body color or black with the specific sunflower yellow colour.
Inside, beautiful anthracite Targa upholstery, front bucket seats with integrated headrests and a cluster of instruments with round Jaeger dials on a brushed aluminum background with the most beautiful effect.
The GSX 2 is identical to the GSX with the addition of the heated rear screen, reversing lights, a cigarette lighter and above all the adoption of a new reworked 1222 cm3 engine, developing 65 DIN hp at 5750 rpm for a maximum torque of 9.3 mkg at 3,500 rpm, enabling a maximum speed of 157 km/h (148 km/h for the GSX) to be reached.
Both light and compact, the GSX and GSX 2 have strong acceleration compensated by an anti-lift front axle as well as front and rear stabilizer bars that reduce body roll when cornering. Braking is provided by four power-assisted disc brakes. The hydropneumatic suspension makes it possible to pass troughs and speed bumps quickly and comfortably.
As it was written in the catalog in 1974 when they were released: “GSX or GSX 2, here are two cars with a fiery temperament which will allow you, on a small budget, to initiate you to sporty driving without risk”.
As an option, it was possible to have a sunroof (or vinyl roof for the GSX 2), tinted windows, radio, rear seat belts, heated rear window (for the GSX).
