Denis' Talbot Samba GL
This Samba GL has been in the family since November 1984, bought second-hand by my parents as a second car, at the Peugeot-Talbot dealership in Sully-sur-Loire in Loiret.
This 1982 model (registered new on January 18, 1982) then had 17,500 kilometres.
At the time we hesitated with a Renault 5….
We made the right choice and we were not disappointed.
Today it has 174,000 km and I have owned it since 1991.
So many kilometers covered at the wheel: in town, on the road and on the highway, day and night, on snow or in heavy rain (the windshield wiper and rear fog light are very practical).
I always arrived safely with it despite a little light braking (no brake booster!). Admittedly, it is not very powerful but agile and above all it forgives small driving errors with its understeering front axle.
They worked the Talbot engineers well, with very little financial leeway. I would have liked to have the much more powerful GLS version but ultimately the advantage of the GL is that it consumes little fuel and the 1124 cm3 engine is indestructible (a little long to warm up). I added a rear spoiler available as a manufacturer’s accessory and aluminum rims which give it a little more character. She was even entitled to a Retro report in the Auto Journal of November 2011, entitled: “the thrifty dancer!”.
Today it drives less but I want to keep it: it’s already a collector’s car! »
